Best Outlets & Markets in Madrid: A Guide for Erasmus Students

Shopping in Madrid is more than just buying clothes… it’s an adventure! Whether you want to score designer deals, refresh your wardrobe on a student budget, or discover quirky vintage finds, Madrid has the perfect mix of outlet malls and open-air markets. This guide will help you explore the city’s best shopping spots, so you can spend less and enjoy more during your Erasmus experience.

Top Outlets in Madrid

1. Getafe The Style Outlets

Located south of Madrid, this outlet has more than 80 stores, from fashion to homeware. You’ll find brands like Mango Outlet, Nike, Adidas, and Desigual with discounts from 30% to 70%. It’s next to Nassica shopping park, and you can reach it by car, commuter train, or bus.

2. Sambil Outlet Madrid

Located in Leganés (Metro line 11 – stop: La Fortuna), Sambil is one of the largest outlet malls in Madrid with more than 130 stores. You’ll find fashion, beauty, home goods, restaurants, cinemas, and even a trampoline park — perfect for a full shopping day out.

3. Las Rozas Village

For luxury and premium brands at great prices, head to Las Rozas Village. It’s an open-air outlet village with boutiques like Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, BOSS, and more, with discounts up to 70%. It’s outside Madrid (northwest, A-6 highway) but totally worth the trip for a designer shopping experience.

Best Flea Markets & Mercadillos

El Rastro

Madrid’s most famous flea market, held every Sunday and public holiday from 9:00 to 15:00 in the La Latina neighborhood. Here you can find antiques, vintage clothing, books, art, furniture, and quirky items. Perfect for a Sunday morning stroll!

Mercado de Motores

Held on the second weekend of every month inside the Railway Museum (Museo del Ferrocarril) in Delicias. Expect vintage furniture, handmade crafts, music, food trucks, and a very cool, alternative vibe.

Mercado de las Ranas

On the first Saturday of each month, the Barrio de Las Letras becomes an open-air market with art, crafts, live music, and local food stands..

Majadahonda Market

If you want a local experience outside Madrid’s center, Majadahonda’s market is open Tuesdays and Saturdays. You’ll find clothing, accessories, food, and second-hand items at very affordable prices.

Tips for a Perfect Shopping Day

  • Go early: Especially to El Rastro — it gets crowded fast.
  • Bring cash & card: Some stalls only accept cash.
  • Wear comfy shoes: You’ll be walking a lot.
  • Check the weather: Most markets are outdoors.
  • Compare prices: The same brand might have different prices in different outlets.
  • Inspect items carefully: Especially vintage or second-hand clothing.
